We provide evidence based outreach education specifically designed for staff caring for children on long term ventilation via tracheostomy.
The Children’s Long Term Ventilation Service educational programme is designed to improve the knowledge, technical skill and confidence of those caring for children on Long Term Invasive Ventilation, particularly in understanding the reasons for ventilation, assessing degrees of ventilator dependency, troubleshooting clinical or equipment problems and managing emergency scenarios.
Our programme involves a blended approach to learning combining interactive online learning with face to face training and simulated scenario based learning. Teaching is provided by specialist clinicians actively working in the field of children’s long term ventilation with teaching techniques underpinned by adult learning theory.
Please note: This education programme does not replace the need for the assessment of staff competency around procedures for specific patients.
